The Need

PidginGPT is an AI language platform built specifically for Nigerian Pidgin English. The vision behind it is simple but meaningful: millions of people communicate in Pidgin every day, yet most AI tools either flatten the language, miss the cultural context, or struggle to make it feel natural.

PidginGPT was created to help change that. A conversational AI experience designed around Nigerian Pidgin, culture, expression, and everyday communication. The team needed a single technical partner who could take that vision from a blank canvas all the way to a commercially ready product, handling the AI architecture, the full-stack build, payments across two very different markets, and the launch.

What We Built

Smart Way AI had the privilege of serving as the technical build partner for PidginGPT, supporting the product architecture, AI engineering, custom language systems, payments, and the broader product stack. It has been some of the most interesting work we have done, and that is saying something.

The AI Engine

Five distinct modes including Explain-It, Learning Companion, and Rewrite Mode. Each one carries its own prompt architecture with tone control, ambiguity handling, cultural calibration, and safety filtering, so responses feel natural and accurate rather than robotic or literal.

The Commercial Platform

User authentication, real-time chat with conversation memory, an admin analytics dashboard, Stripe and Paystack integration for global and Nigerian payments, PWA install for mobile home screens, and transactional email through Resend. Everything a product needs to take real payments from real users from day one.
